Cast

Plot

The series depicts Karl, Nils and Henry, three friends who live together in the suburbs in a house owned by Karl. The first episode depicts Karl getting fired from his job, and subsequently getting divorced. After the divorce, Nils, one of Karl's old colleagues, moves in with him, before Henry, a door-to-door salesman, completes the trio.

Season 1 - 3

The show begins as Karl Reverud, economist and accountant, is fired from his job and subsequently divorced by his greedy wife. Threatened with losing his house, he reluctantly agrees to have a former colleague, Nils, as well as an elderly travelling salesman, Henry, move in with him in return for them helping him keep his house. The three soon discover that they are three very different persons with three very different personalities, causing much comical foil as the three jump from idea to idea in various attempts to gain easy money.

Season 4 - 6

After three seasons, the show began some changes, going from a "episode-only-plot" style to a wider story, where both Nils and Karl get girlfriends, the latter of which moves in with him during the fourth season.

Season 7 - 8 and series' end

In late season 6, Hilde Lyrån briefly left the show as she was pregnant in real life, with the explanation that her character left for Paris to work as an au pair for six months. She returned in late season 7 and stayed until the end.

In the last episode of the series, Henry and Elna get married and subsequently move to Spain, where they open a Norwegian restaurant, while Nils and Trine are expecting children and move into Elna's old apartment. Karl ends up moving into a new apartment in the first episode of the series' spin-off Karl & Co. At some point between the last episode of Mot i Brøstet and the first episode of Karl & Co, Målfrid leaves Karl and moves to Africa.

In 1999 a straight-to-video movie entitled Tusenårsfesten ('The Millennium Party') was released, bringing together the main characters from both Mot i brøstet and Karl & Co (with the exception of Hilde Lyrån). It aired on TV 2 in 2001, and released on DVD in 2007.
